Here is a homework checklist for tonight! J

1). Discuss the writing assessment with your parents/siblings/babysitter, etc. Tell them your story from start to finish and listen to any suggestions they may have.

Think about:

·      How to end your story

·      Characters- do you give them enough personality and description?

·      Is there a problem in your story?

·      How do you solve the problem?

·      Juicy words to add to your story

(You can have this conversation in the car ride home or to school tomorrow morning, at the dinner table, right before bedtime, at breakfast tomorrow, etc.)

2). Review your Prairie Tales script. Make sure you know your lines AND your cues!

3). Prepare your “costume” for tomorrow. You can always bring school clothes to change in/out of before/after the play. Remember Mr. O’Neill’s suggestions (white t-shirt and jeans, leggings/shorts for girls, etc).

4). Get a good night sleep and eat a good breakfast! You will all be FANTASTIC! I can’t wait to see it!

1). In your own words, describe what this precept means to you.

State of the Union Address Worksheet - Watch at 7pm tonight on any major network!

“He shall from time to time give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”

1.     What is the purpose of the State of the Union Address?  

Before the speech begins, many important people enter the House Chamber of Congress.  Notice that members of the three branches of government are all present in the same room.  This rarely happens throughout the year. 

Legislative Branch – Writes and votes for laws -- House of Representatives and U.S. Senate

Executive Branch –  Provides the leadership for the country; can suggest laws, but cannot write them --  The President, Vice President, and his/her advisors (the cabinet – Secretary of State,  Secretary of Defense, etc.)

Judicial Branch – Checks to make sure the laws fit what the Constitution says – the Supreme Court Justices and many lower level judges

2.    Notice:  Who is sitting behind the President of the United States during the speech? Write their names and their titles (jobs).
